When processing a card payment, you may encounter a response code. Here are the common response codes, types, description and recommended action that you should do.

Soft Decline

If you encounter a Soft Decline, you can try processing the payment one more time after a few minutes and if you get the same code you need to contact the issuing bank for further assistance.

  • Code: D01

    Response: Denied by Customer's Bank

    Description: Transaction has been denied by the card holder's bank.

    Action: Please try again, if unsuccessful, call issuing bank.

  • Code: D03

    Response: Insufficient Funds

    Description: The credit card does not have sufficient funds.

    Action: Make sure the credit card has enough funds before trying again.

  • Code: D12

    Response: Service Not Allowed also known as Invalid Transaction

    Description: The credit card is not configured for the type of transaction. May also occur in corporate cards and prepaid cards.

    Action: Try again, if unsuccessful, please call issuing bank.

  • Code: D17

    Response: Re-enter Transaction

    Description: An unknown error occurred during the authorization process.

    Action: Please re-enter transaction, if unsuccessful, call issuing bank.

  • Code: D19

    Response: Unmapped Decline

    Description: One of the most common error codes. The processor's response code is not recognized by the system.

    Action: Try again, if unsuccessful, please call issuing bank.

Hard Decline

If you encounter a Hard Decline, you can only process the payment once and you need to immediately contact the issuing bank for further assistance.

  • Code: D02

    Response: Invalid Expiration date

    Description: Cardholder has entered invalid expiration date.

    Action: Please enter the correct expiration date.

  • Code: D05

    Response: Invalid Card Number

    Description: The credit card number is invalid or does not exist.

    Action: Please enter the correct card number.

  • Code: D13

    Response: Stop Recurring

    Description: Cardholder requested stop specific recurring payment.

    Action: Please call issuing bank.

  • Code: D16

    Response: Card is Expired

    Description: A transaction was processed on an expired card.

    Action: Please make sure to enter the new card's expiration date.

  • Code: D27

    Response: Transaction Error

    Description: Submitted transaction has failed.

    Action: Please call issuing bank.
